4 Ways to Wear a Scarf

Woman covering face with scarfBy now, we're well into winter and, baby, it sure is cold outside! It goes without saying that we're all looking for ways to stay warm and cozy while we're out and about. However, we naturally want to look our very best and most stylish as well. This season's beautiful and luxurious scarves fit the bill perfectly. They're wonderfully elegant ways not only to stay warm, but to add style and flair to all your winter outfits.

Here are four simple, fresh, and fashionable ways to wear your scarves that you're sure to fall in love with this winter.

1. The Belted Look

In search of a truly unique way to wear your scarf that you don't see every day? Need a new idea to add pizzazz and flair to your winter layered looks? Look no further than a cool and creative belted scarf look. It pairs wonderfully with everything, from your favorite day dress, to your go-to pair of work slacks, to your weekend leggings and tunic look. Best of all, it's simple and quick - the perfect way to look chic and stylish in a flash!

  • Place your scarf gently over your shoulders. It should hang evenly on either side of your neck. Leave it wider if you'd like to create more of a faux vest look. Fold it thinner if you want to leave more of your top visible.

  • Grab a stylish belt and simply buckle it over your scarf around the smallest part of your waist. How stylish is that?

2. The Western Wrap

Looking for a way to wear your scarf that turns it into a fun accent piece that adds flair to your outfit? Want a unique new idea for dressing up an office staple or your favorite night-out-on-the-town outfit? Give this style idea a try. You'll be happy to know that it works just as well with a lightweight scarf as it does a heavier winter one, so this technique makes a great accessory for spring as well.
o Start by folding your scarf into a nice, neat square. Then fold the square again diagonally to create a triangle.
o Drape the scarf around your neck blanket style. Make sure the point of the triangle you created is facing forward. (It can be a little off center if you like.)
o Tie the ends of your scarf together in back.

3. Bib Style

This style is a great way to create a chic, casually cool look for a party, get-together, or church function. Choose your fabric with care and it's even stylish enough to wear to a formal event. All you need is a favorite brooch or pin to pull this tastefully simple look together to perfection.

  • Start by folding your scarf in half lengthwise. Drape it over your chest the way you would a bib.

  • Gently wrap the ends around the back of your neck and then back around to the front.

  • Join the ends together and pin them where you'd like them using your brooch. Artfully arrange any excess fabric, and you're all done!

4. The Pretzel Knot

When it's really cold out, you definitely need your scarf to protect you from all the bitterness out there, and the pretzel knot is just the thing. It creates a chunky scarf look that not only looks fashionable but which truly keeps your neck warm. It's also super fashionable this season, as it looks amazing nestled inside the neckline of an overcoat or layered over a stylish poncho.

  • Start by folding your scarf in half lengthwise. Then fold it lengthwise again, taking care to keep your hand inside the loop you create.

  • Still keeping your hand inside the loop, gently place the scarf around your neck.

  • Take one of the ends of the scarf and pull it through that loop.

  • Wrap the other end over the loop, and then under it in the opposite direction. Gently tighten and arrange the fabric to your liking.

Of course, these are just a few of the many ways you can take any winter scarf from "blah" to "wow" in a flash. Don't be afraid to experiment with other creative ways to make this fabulous winter must-have your own as well.
