When Randy Merrell began making boots in 1981 in the small town of Vernal, Utah, the handcrafted boots cost $500 each to make. Later that same year, his boots were named the Most Comfortable & Functional Boot in North America by Backpacker Magazine. In 1982, the Bank of Vermont invested in Randy’s business and suddenly the means and cost of production were economically fit for the Merrell Boot Company to venture onto a larger scale of mass production. Continuing to strive and advance with each passing year, the Merrell Boot Company now has a wide array of hiking and sport boots, moccasins, slides, sandals and dress shoes for every type of outdoor enthusiast.
