Trending Now: Block Heel Booties

Here in the 21st century, women are no longer willing to settle for one thing or the other. They don’t want a career or a family; they want both. They don’t want a relationship or a fulfilling social life filled with friends; they want both. The same line of reasoning applies to the modern woman’s approach to fashion.

Today’s woman expects her footwear to be comfortable, practical, and stylish. That’s exactly why block heel booties are having such a moment right now. They’re the perfect marriage of all the elements women are looking for in a fall shoe.

Why Go with Block Heels?

There are several reasons to forgo stilettos or other more traditional heels in favor of block heels. Let us count the ways!

Comfort

Every woman loves the graceful look and the height that comes along with high heels. What they’re not so nuts about are the pain and discomfort that come along with them. This is especially the case when it comes to long days spent working on one’s feet.

Today’s block heels are every bit as stylish and feminine as other high heels, but they’re also a lot more practical when it comes to everyday wear. You can do everything in them from painting the town red on a date, to working, to spending the day running errands or driving the kids around.

Versatility

Not every look is a great fit for stilettos or flats. However, you can pair anything from jeans, to dresses, to shorts with block heels and still look fabulous. They’re also available from a multitude of designers, come in just about every color under the sun, and can be found attached to just about every kind of footwear there is. Whatever the look you might have in mind, it’s sure to go perfectly with a block heel.

In short, block heels represent the very best of both worlds – the elegant, leg-flattering look of a heel without the pain, discomfort, or safety issues that tend to come along with them.

Finding the perfect flat shoe for style and comfort

Many women think in order to look stylish, dressy and sexy they need to wear high heel shoes and they would never consider a flat shoe when trying to achieve that certain sexy and chic look.  High-heeled shoes can definitely add a dressier touch to an outfit and they can certainly make a woman feel sexy, but they are not the only shoes capable of doing this.  Flat shoes, when worn correctly, can dress up an outfit to perfection and they can be just as stylish, sexy and fun as their high-heeled counterparts.  And flats have the advantage of comfort that high-heels will never beat!!  So give your feet a break from the painful heels this season and slip on a pair of  comfortable flat shoes–you won’t regret it.

Tips for finding the perfect women’s flat shoe for you:

Because flat shoes aren’t as dynamic as heels, look for a shoe in a bright color, such as red.  Pierre Dumas’s Gloria red ballet shoe is a great option for a colorful flat. Also try flats with fun colors like the Bernie Mev Catwalk.  You don’t have to stick to the basic neutral colors like black, brown, gray or muted metallics.  Vibrant colors and stylish prints add creativity to ballet shoes and make them much more fun to wear.  Pair these shoes with dressier styles of pants and skirts to look sexy and classy at the same time, or wear them with jeans and leggings for a comfortable and casual look.

Ballet shoes made with textured fabrics are another great option. The Pierre Dumas Ballet is a neutral color, but it’s textured fabric gives it a unique look and feel.  This shoe looks great with skinny jeans, a blouse and a cable knit cardigan or throw them on with leggings, a tunic and a colorful scarf.

Many of this seasons flat shoes for women have decorative embroidery and are accented with buckles, gems, bows, straps and ornate flair. The different types of embroidery and embellishments transform the basic flat into a shoe with unique style and personality.  The Pierre Dumas Orly in black or whiskey (brown) are also a great style of flat shoes to consider. The black flat has ornate silver flair and the brown (whiskey) flat comes with gold flair. The gold and silver accents on both the Gloria and the Orly ballet style shoes make them easy to dress up and also very easy to wear with a more relaxed casual look.  Wear gold and silver  jewelry with dress pants and skirts for a more professional style.  For a fun casual look, pair either style of these flats with boyfriend jeans, a fitted t-shirt and some chunky gold or silver jewelry.

What Are Oxford Dress Shoes

cole haan wingtip style mens shoe

Oxford shoes originated in Scotland and Ireland. Made from strong and durable leather, these shoes usually had enclosed lacing and sat just below the ankle. When Oxford shoes were first made they were very plain with little or no decoration.  Today you can find Oxford shoes made from a variety of materials such as leather, suede and synthetics and in a variety of styles – both in men’s and women’s shoes. While Oxford shoes are typically classified as dress shoes, they are available in less formal styles, and can be worn with jeans or casual slacks and skirts.

There are five types of Oxford shoes available for men; Kilties, Saddle, Wingtip, Open Laced and Closed Laced. Kiltie Oxfords are usually rather ornate in design. They slip on to the foot with ease and usually have a tassel attached to the tongue of the shoe. Kilties look great with nice shorts, dress pants.  Saddle Oxfords are easy to pick out; they have a piece of leather, in the shape of a saddle, sewn on to the front of the shoe. Often, this piece of leather is a different color than the rest of the shoe. One of the more popular types of Oxford shoes are the Wingtips. These are definitely a great choice for men who are looking for stylish business shoes. Wingtip Oxfords feature an extra piece of leather sewn onto the toe and front of the shoe in a shape that resembles wings.

Open Laced Oxfords appear as though they are made from three pieces of leather – one on each side and one down the middle, whereas Closed Laced Oxfords, sometimes referred to as Balmorals,  appear as though they are made from one piece of leather.

For many, many generations, Oxford shoes have remained a constant, fashionable and practical shoes.

The Season To Loaf In To Houser Shoes

“Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.”-Edith Sitwell. What better way to complement home, than to walk around in it with the first pair of house shoes ever made for royalty directly from London, loafers! This popular and ever so versatile slip-on has evolved over time and adapted to many different era’s.

This style shoe is great for many different occasions. From work to leisure and school to business, whatever the choice, loafers will keep the comfort in your step. In the 1930’s, G.H. Bass started making loafers under the name Weejuns (seeing as how this style originated in Norway). He made his style loafer with a distinctive addition, a strip of leather across the saddle with a diamond cut-out. In the mid 1950’s other influences brought a more elegant image to the light, such as lower cuts. In America and some European countries, the loafer takes a more general use as a casual and informal shoe. But for more formal situations, lace-ups are very much preferred.

Worn by women, men and even children, loafers have been and will be around with style and comfort for a very long time. This style shoe is owned by many different name brands. G.H. Bass is a more sophisticated and formal style. If you are looking for a more leisure or homebound style, UGG, LAMO’s or even Life Stride would all be wonderful choices. At Houser Shoes, comfort is a key aspect we look at when bringing in new shoes. When it comes to loafers, this style ranks one of the highest in comfort. Come on in to Houser Shoes and we will make sure to surpass accommodating your loafing needs.
